$1.2 Million in Funding Announced for WV Emergency Services

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has announced $1,255,400 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for seven fire departments and emergency medical services (EMS) organizations in West Virginia. The funding is made possible through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.
The Hooverson Heights Volunteer Fire Department, located in Follansbee, will receive $125,420 of the funding.
“West Virginia’s firefighters and first responders work tirelessly to protect our communities, and we must ensure they have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Senator Manchin. “I’m pleased that FEMA is investing more than $1.2 million to strengthen fire safety and EMS in Hamlin, White Sulphur Springs, Follansbee, Leon, Parsons, Fairmont and Lewisburg. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding that supports our emergency service personnel and organizations.”
The AFG program strives to enhance firefighter safety and public safety. AFG awards provide critically-needed resources that equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability and support community resilience.
