Brooke High Golf Program Continues Success

The largest Brooke High School Golf Program has had tremendous success this season. Coach Marshall Hone’s varsity, who had to replace five of six members, has won nearly every match this season including victories over John Marshall, Weir and Oak Glen this past Thursday. Brooke recorded a quality score of 364 defeating JM 274, Weir 385 and Oak Glen 448 at the challenging Jones Course at the Speidel Golf Complex at Oglebay.
The team was led by Andrew Petrello with 88, Henry Anderson 89 and Parker McMahon with 91. Colton Yenson rounded out the scoring with 97.
They face a tough week with a match on Tuesday against a quality team from Steubenville on Tuesday and then return to the Jones course on Thursday for the OVAC Championship Tournament.
The boys JV team also had a big win on Thursday when they shot a sharp 162 at Brooke Hills Park as they defeated Linsly 169, Wheeling Park 173, J. Marshall 180 and Wheeling Central 190. Coach Shawn Allen’s team was led by Carter Nielson with a 38.
The Junior Varsity boys travel to Morgantown on Monday to play in what is called the “Huge JV Golf Event” at Lakeview Resort hosted by University High School. The very competitive event includes JV teams from throughout central West Virginia.
The girls rounded out a tremendous Thursday as the girls also won a 5 count 3 tri-match at Brooke Hills Park Brooke – 133, Wheeling Park – 147, Wheeling Central – 157. The girls were led by Elliott McDonald with a 41 followed by Grace Shepard – 45, Sophia Wilkerson – 47, Annabelle Haught – 47, Savannah Alcantara – 48
The girls, coached by first year coach David McDonald, will compete in their first Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday. The event will be held at Belmont Hills Country Club in St. Clairsville, OH.
