Frances Ann Mascaro

FRANCES ANN MASCARO, 86, of Bridgeport, WV, formerly of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Galloway, WV, on August 27, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Mary Lopez Lechiaria and Frank Lechiaria. Fran sadly was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel A. Mascaro, in 1979. As a widow, she demonstrated unwavering strength and resilience, raising four children while passionately pursuing a career in education. After her husband’s passing, she went on to earn her master’s degree from West Virginia University. A graduate of Fairmont State, Fran began her teaching journey in the parochial system at Saint Paul’s in the early 60’s and devoted over 40 years to her students, whom she cherished deeply. After more than 30 years of dedicated service with the Steubenville City School District, Fran retired but continued to pursue her passion for teaching. She moved closer to her family in West Virginia and found joy in educating her grandchildren, a special highlight of her later years. Fran’s life was one of service—service to her family, her students, and her community. Though her departure brings sorrow, her legacy of love, knowledge, and kindness continues to inspire all who knew her. She dedicated her heart and soul to her vocation as a teacher and principally to the students that she taught for over forty years. Fran will be remembered with love and admiration by her children: Mary Beth Mascaro Corwin (late Bo Corwin), Marcia Blount (Anthony Blount), Patrick Mascaro (Tina Mascaro), and Michelle Mascaro Efaw (Michael Efaw); her grandchildren: Luke, Gianna, and Maresa Hrapchak; James, Alexandria (Jaworski), and Gabriella Mascaro; Tavia and Presley Blount; and her three great-grandchildren. Family and friends were invited to her visitation on Friday, September 13, 2024 at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. She was laid to rest next to her husband at Saint Paul’s Cemetery. While Fran’s departure brings sadness, the love, memories and lessons that she left behind continues to enrich the world. Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com.
