Earl Charles “Otis” McLaughlin, III

EARL CHARLES “OTIS” MCLAUGHLIN, III, 80, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Golden Oaks Personal Care Center in Follansbee, WV. He was born on August 22, 1944, in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Earl Charles and Dorothy (Branch) McLaughlin Jr. In addition to his parents, Earl is preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Ross Tennant and Clayton Bane; and a nephew, Eric Bane. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1963 and earned his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University. Earl was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and retired from Weirton Steel Corporation where he was an Engineer on the biggest steam engine in the mill. He is survived by four brothers: Alan “Mole’ (Carol) McLaughlin of Washington, PA, Thomas (Donna) McLaughlin of Dallas, WV, Patrick (Jodi) McLaughlin of Wellsburg, WV, and Jay (Carol) McLaughlin of Wheeling, WV; three sisters: Joanne Bane of Wellsburg, Doris “Dorie” Tennant of Bethlehem, WV, and Tina (Matthew) Trapanotto of Murrysville, PA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 11 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Liturgy of the Word at 1 p.m., with Father Justin Golna officiating at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee. Inurnment was held privately at Brooke Cemetery, Wellsburg, with full military honors conducted by the United States Army and the Ohio Valley Veteran Memorial Squad.
