JOHN HERBERT “SONNY” LYLE, JR., 78, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the Continuous Care Center, Wheeling, WV under the care of the staff with the assistance of Amedisys Hospice. John was born on March 18, 1946 in Bellaire, OH. He was the son of the late John H. Lyle Sr. and Betty Lee (Marling) Lyle. Upon graduating Wellsburg High School, John attended WVU. Now 58 years later their dedication and love to each other never wavered since being sealed that warm fall Friday in September. After retiring, John worked at Lowe’s in Washington, PA for ten years. John, as well as Mary Cay loved to plan weekend gateways and spend time together in their home they built in the woods. John’s hobbies were tending to his garden and hunting with his father and son for many years. He also enjoyed attending Steeler home games, as well as a few away games, with his friends, David and Jack. In addition to John’s wife, Mary Catherine (Grotz) Lyle, he is survived by a son, James John “Jimmy” Lyle and his wife, Monica (Rasz) Lyle and a sister, Bonnie Colley, two nieces and a nephew. A private graveside service was held at the Chapel at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, with Funeral Celebrant, Eric Fithyan presiding.
