Myrtle Marie Shimko

MYRTLE MARIE SHIMKO, 93, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Weirton Medical Center. She was born on June 6, 1931, in Bethany, WV a daughter of the late Earl Milton and Goldie (Nixon) Owens. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Shimko; her son, Jeffrey Shimko; a grandson, Joshua Daniel Snodgrass on May 15, 2022; her two brothers, Roy and Ray Owens; and two sisters, Dorothy Link and Shirley Tredway. Marie graduated from Bethany High School in 1949. She worked for many years at Bethany College in housekeeping and at Patsy’s Quick Stop in Colliers, WV along with Welshans Bar in Colliers, WV. She was Christian by faith. Her favorite past time besides spending time with family was being a professional bingo player, euchre player, she loved to dance, crochet, throw darts, along with watching her great grandchildren play, and visits to see her daughter in Dayton and visit the casino while she was there. She is survived by three loving children: Joanne (Chip) Snodgrass of Wellsburg, WV, Jane Meade of Dayton, OH, and John Mike (Lori) Shimko of Wellsburg; two grandchildren she adored, Erin (Michael) Gilchrist and Dalton Walnoha; two great grandchildren, Emmet and Landry Gilchrist; and several nieces and nephews, among them a very special niece, Linda Walters Visitation was held on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee.
