MATTIE LOIS (LOU) JONES PLATT, 97, passed away peacefully at her home, on October 5, 2024. Born April 30, 1927 to Ben and Mattie Jones, of Mahan Lane, Follansbee, WV. She is proceeded in death by her husband, John Platt who she was happily married to for over 65 years; daughter, Debi Platt Belk, grandson, Zak Platt; and great grandson, Dusty Sperringer. She leaves behind and will be greatly missed by her son, Greg Platt, (Teresa) of Follansbee, WV and daughter, Susan Gagich (Terry) of Wellsburg, WV. She was the most loving Mimi to: Joei Lin, Audra, Erin, Zak, Justin, Matt and Kate, (bonus grandsons Rich, Brad and Steve), 13 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Lou was the last living sibling of the Jones family which included brothers she often told a story of boxing with them Ben, Newt, Tom, Bob, Jim, Duane(wink) and sister Helen. She was the favorite aunt too many nieces and nephews, where she often challenged them in a game of volleyball at all the family reunions. Lou grew up on Mahan Lane, working at park hardware with her brother Ben, and also delivering papers in her younger years. Lou was a Christian by faith and a faithful member of Franklin Methodist Church. She helped start the program for the shut ins thru the church and was a member of the united woman of faith. Lou and best friend Tina Carpenter worked countless hours on crafts for the fall Bizarre, helped in the soup kitchen, always took part in the dinners after other family’s funerals, John and Lou put many years into the Brooke County Sportsman’s club, where she and sister-in-law Dee ran the kitchen for many years, was also a member of Eastern Star. Lou and John started their family on Shangri-La Lane where they raised their three kids. She loved her flowers, gardening and canning the fruits of their labor, crafting and we can’t forget mowing grass, she sure did miss not being able to do that over the last several years. Lou’s other favorite past time was thrift shopping with her daughters and always up for a challenge of Family volleyball, wiffle ball, Yahtzee, canasta, and scrabble. No one ever left Lou’s home hungry for as soon as you walked in the door she was trying to feed you, she will always be remembered for her sweet tea, hot rolls and her delicious and famous homemade noodles. She was a wonderful wife and mother the best Mimi ever, the best friend anybody could have, a beautiful soul through and through. Her grandchildren would like to add that they love you the MOST Mimi! A bushel, and a Peck and a hug around the neck…Graveside services were held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, with Pastor Nelson Ngongo officiating.
