JAMES MADISON SAFFEL, 89, of New Cumberland, West VV passed away on October 18, 2024 at Brightwood Nursing Home. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. James was born on October 31,1934 in Philippi, West Virginia. He is the son of the Robert and Edith Saffel. He spent his early years growing up in Philippi, WV. His family moved to Weirton, WV as he was beginning Weir High school as his father had secured a job at Weirton Steel. While attending Weir High School, he met his future bride, Patsy Ann Henthorn. James graduated from Weir High. After which he left for service in the Army. While serving in Germany, Patsy and James wrote many letters to each other. When James completed his service, he returned to Weirton and married Patsy on June 28, 1958. James began working at Phillips Can Company and going to Business College. After completion, James incorporated his education as Payroll Clerk at Weirton Steel. He remained there until he retired. James loved to be outdoors. He was blessed with a green thumb and grew a wonderful garden for many years. He worked the land by cutting trees, mowing, and always clearing a new area for use. He was a hard worker, and taught his children by example. He was a Christian man who shared the gospel. He was a patient, good hearted man who loved his family. James is survived by his wife, Patsy, his children, Jay Michael Saffel (Tina) of Chesterfield, South Carolina and Pamela Ann Thompson of Weirton, West Virginia along with his grandchildren, Ashlyn Luttrell (Robert) of Oakdale, Minnesota, Esta Duffy of Kokomo, Indiana,Tyson Rumple (Christina) of Marion, Indiana, and Victoria Rumple of Marion, Indiana. His surviving great-grandchildren are Malachi Bryant, Isaiah Rumple, Whitney Duffy, Keona Duffy, Kaylee Duffy, Gavreil Young, Henry Rumple, with one more great granddaughter to be born in January. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. James was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Saffel and Edith Saffel, as well as grandson, Titus Rumple, great grandson Eli Rumple, and 3 great grandchildren angel babies which he will meet in Heaven. Visitation was held Monday, October 21, 2024 until the time of the service, at Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home, Weirton, with his granddaughter, Pastor Ashlyn Luttrell presiding.
