Esther Louise Chalfant

ESTHER LOUISE CHALFANT, 96, of Follansbee, WV died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at home with her son by her side. She was born on September 17, 1928, in Washington, PA, a daughter of the late Howard and Helen (Burwell) Wright. In addition to her parents, Esther is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William C. Chalfant, Sr; one brother, Harlan Wright; and one sister, Shirley Caldwell. She graduated from Avella High School. Esther was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Follansbee, and she worked over 20 years and retired from the Brooke County Board of Education where she was a secretary. Esther is survived by her only son, William “Bill” C. Chalfant, Jr. M.D. of Follansbee, WV, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation for Esther was held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 and again on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 until the time of the funeral, with Pastor George Romage officiating, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee. Interment followed at Independence Cemetery, Independence, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601. The family would like to give a special thank you to Valley Hospice for their wonderful care of Esther during this difficult time.
