SAM PETROVICH, 92, of Weirton, WV, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Born on March 3, 1932, in Weirton, Sam was one of 11 children born to the late Steve and Helen Cimica Petrovich, Sr. Sam was a standout athlete at Weir High School, graduating in 1950, and was recognized as an All-State athlete. His talents earned him a scholarship offer from the Kentucky Wildcats, extended by legendary coach Bear Bryant. However, in 1952, Sam chose to serve his country by joining the United States Coast Guard, where he proudly dedicated four years of service. On September 1, 1956, Sam married the love of his life, Pauline Wheeler. Sam spent over 30 years working at Weirton Steel, where he retired as a side trimmer in the Tin Mill. In retirement, he pursued his passions for gardening, woodworking, and home remodeling, always keeping busy with projects. He was a dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved the camaraderie of card games and betting parlays with friends. Known for his determination, if Sam said he would do something, it was as good as done. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his five brothers, Pete, Fred, Eli, Steve, and Mike Petrovich; and his sisters, Millie Dragisich, Marie Scott, and Dorothy Bella.
