JAMES CLARK HARE, 88, of Weirton, WV passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Brightwood Center. Born on April 26, 1936, in Morgantown, WV, James was the beloved son of Charles and Lulu Forman Hare. A proud graduate of Morgantown High School, Class of 1954, James continued his studies at West Virginia University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. This led him to Weirton to accept a position within the steel industry that he held for over forty years. On June 26, 1965, James married the love of his life, Marlene Smith, with whom he shared fifty-nine beautiful years. Together, they built a loving family and raised three children. James was a devoted man of faith, actively participating in the community of Memorial Baptist Church. His love for the outdoors led him to spend cherished moments as an avid deer hunter and fisherman, exploring locally in Morgantown, Bethany, and the beautiful landscapes of Mineral County, West Virginia. James and Marlene enjoyed spending winters in Florida, making treasured memories together in the warmth of the sunshine state. Throughout his life, James embraced camaraderie, sharing in activities that brought him joy and lasting friendships. He was a member of the Weirton 3 Score Club, the Emeritus Club of WVU, and the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club. Known for his enthusiasm for sports, James was a loyal fan of WVU and Pittsburgh Steelers football. He also enjoyed bowling and participating in leagues at Weirton Steel and Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by sisters Doris, Mary Jo, Charlotte, and Barbara. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Marlene Hare, sons James (Tammy) Hare of Medina, OH., John ( Mary) Hare of Derwood, MD., and daughter Jeanine (Tom) Worden of Silver Spring, MD., brother Charles (Donna) Hare of Morgantown, WV., sister Nancy Thrush of Beltsville, MD., grandchildren James and Adam Hare, Tessa and Zachary Botkin, step-grandchildren Nathan and Aaron James and Carolyn and Courtney Worden. Friends were invited to visit with James’s family on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Additional visitation was held Friday, November 15, 2024 until the time of the funeral service, at Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, Weirton. Burial took place immediately following James’s service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The Reverend William C. Stout officiated.
