John Sherrard George, Sr.

JOHN SHERRARD GEORGE, SR., of Wellsburg, WV, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at U.P.M.C Passavant in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born April 18, 1938, in Wellsburg, WV, the son of the late Edward M. and Katherine Sherrard (Wickersham) George. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Rebecca Ann and his brother Ned George. John graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1956 and after high school served his country in the United States Army during peacetime. He later retired after many years as Maintenance Supervisor at Koppers Industries. John helped start the Franklin Little League at Brooke Hills Park and was on the park board at one time. He was also an original founding member of the Brooke High Football Boosters. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann (Watson) George, whom he married July 8, 1961; his sons, Mark Edward George of Atlanta, GA and John Sherrard George, Jr. of Mars, PA and his wife Dr. Alexandra George; grandchildren Melina, Amalea, and Joshua George; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Pellicciotti and Sandra George; and several nieces and nephews. John Sr. was an honest, loyal, and generous man. He was relied upon by many and was a backbone to the Wellsburg community for decades. John Sr. was a supportive beacon for his friends and family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved unconditionally. May he rest in peace and his memory be eternal. There was no visitation. Private entombment was held at Union Cemetery, Steubenville, OH at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were under the direction of Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee.
