Sandra “Nan” Rae (Mitchell) Shorts

SANDRA “NAN” RAE (MITCHELL) SHORTS, 75, of Wellsburg, WV, passed suddenly away on December 18, 2024 at her residence. Sandy was born on March 28, 1949 in Steubenville, OH. She was the daughter of the late Harold “Bubby” and Pearl Walker and her birthparents, Harry and Evelyn (McKinney) Mitchell. Sandy was a graduate of Follansbee High School in 1967 and worked as a Seamstress at Weisberger, Follansbee, WV for 20 years in addition to many customers stopping at her home. She was member of Christ Episcopal Church, Wellsburg, WV where she helped with the Roast Beef Lunches. Sandy was a poll worker being head of the voting station in Wellsburg in order to greet everyone with a smile and hug. Many will remember Sandy for her love of flowers, camping and being a great homemaker; but most of all, the infectious smile and love she shared with everyone. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her three siblings, Margaret Malinoski, Harold Mitchell and Mildred Mitchell. Sandy is survived by her loving and dedicated husband, James W. Shorts Sr.; a son, James “Jimmy” Shorts, Jr. and his wife, Margaret; a granddaughter, Caitlyn Ayoob and her husband, Michael; a great granddaughter and the apple of her eye, Mara Mae Ayoob; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends were received on Saturday, December 21, 2024 and again on Sunday, December 22, 2024 until the time of the funeral service, at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, with Reverend Gene Sheppard officiating.
