Donald Charles Smith

DONALD CHARLES SMITH, 86, of Wellsburg WV, died peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Wellsburg Healthcare Center in Wellsburg WV. Born on November 16, 1938 in Follansbee, WV a son of the late Roy W and Virginia (Cawthorne) Smith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Bess Marie (Stuart) Smith, one son Eric Ric Smith, and one brother, Roy W Smith. Don graduated from Follansbee High School in 1956. After high school he enlisted in the army and served during peace time. He later retired from Kopper‘s Industries after 34 years of service where he worked as a storeroom supervisor and purchasing agent. He was a lifelong member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Wellsburg. Don enjoyed his retirement and was very active in the Wellsburg Moose Lodge #1564 serving as governor for four terms, and on many committees he also received the Pilgram Degree of Merit the highest degree in the Moose. Don also served his ritual chairman for 45 years and served one term as president of the West Virginia Moose Association. He was also an avid golfer, but most of all he enjoyed impersonating Elvis in which he did many functions for many organizations and brought a lot of joy to people in Brooke County. Don is survived by one sister, Elaine Davis, of Flagstaff AZ; two nieces, Robin Davis of Flagstaff and Chauncey Kinsey of Georgetown, IL; and two nephews, Jeremy Smith of Newark, OH, and William Donald Smith of N. Canton, OH. Visitation for Don was held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee where funeral services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Gene Sheppard officiating. The Loyal Order of Moose also held services Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Brooke Cemetery, Wellsburg. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad in the army honor guard. Condolences may be left at www.mullenbachfh.com.
