Timothy D. Wansack

TIMOTHY D. WANSACK, 77, of Weirton, WV, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Born on June 17, 1947, in Steubenville, OH, he was one of three sons born to George and Alma Lenhart Wansack. Tim was a graduate of Weir High School, Class of 1965, and went on to earn a teaching degree from West Liberty State College. He began his career teaching History at Weir High School but later transitioned to law enforcement, serving initially under Sheriff Frank Rocchio at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. Tim retired as a Sergeant after 25 years of dedicated service. During his time with the Sherriff’s Office, he was a firearms instructor, as well as a self-defense, knife, and side-handle baton instructor. Following his retirement, Tim continued to contribute to the community as a Criminal Justice instructor at the John D. Rockefeller Career Center and provided security at the courthouse. When asked about why he switched his career from teaching to law enforcement, Tim often quipped that law enforcement was a “safer career.” A very intelligent man with a great sense of humor, Tim was an avid reader, reading up to 15 books a week. He was a member of Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, FOP Lodge 84, and the local Search and Rescue Organization. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alma, and his brother, Tom Wansack. He will be remembered with love by his brother, Mark (Karen) Wansack; his niece Mary Wansack and nephews, Matthew, George and John Wansack. Friends and family were received on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, where Parastas services were also held. A blessing service took place Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by the Funeral Liturgy, at Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Weirton. Interment followed at Saint Paul’s Cemetery. Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com.
