ALICE MARTHA (MOZINGO) CLIFTON, 96, of Follansbee, WV passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, at Valley Hospice surrounded by her family. She was born on October 11,1928 to the late James W. Mozingo and Kate (Brown) Mozingo in Wellsburg, WV. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Paul Allen Clifton in 1993, her daughter Nancy (Gary) Stock in 2013, her son-in- law Gary Stock in 2021; her great granddaughter Bailey Elizabeth Seals in 2023; and her siblings, Verna Ann Mozingo, Wilma Keating, Doris Izzo, James Mozingo, Elsie Mozingo, Harriet Cummings, and Pauline Kilmer. Alice retired from Weirton Steel Corporation’s Powerhouse and had worked several retail jobs prior to that. She and Paul met at a square dance in Steubenville in 1944 and were married on October 2, 1947. Alice enjoyed her immediate and extended family, whom she had kept in close contact with her whole life. She was a member of the TOPS group in Follansbee and was the driving force in making sure the annual Clifton Family Reunion took place. She was an avid reader and enjoyed going to auctions and yard sales with her sisters in their younger years. Alice is survived by three daughters: Joyce (Mike) Gum of Columbiana, OH, Diane (Daniel) Virtue of Colliers, WV, and Martha (Dennis) Wayne of Follansbee, WV. She has nine grandchildren; Angel (Tim) Murphey, Steven Johnson, Lorraine (Travis) Seals, Amy (David) Sutherin, Eddie (Sarah Schilling-McElroy) Stock, Melinda (Shawn) Popish, Alicia Wayne, Derek Wayne, and Jessica (Allen Hu) Wayne; 11 great grandchildren: Laine Murphey, Danielle and William Sutherin, Emily (Chris) Cawthorn, Tyler and Zach Seals, Makayla (Dan) Kemp, Maddison (Hagin Bennett) Moore, Tristan and Jaetin (Haley Gaston) Popish and Aiden Stock; four great-great grandchildren, including Layla and Milo Kemp; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 until the time of the funeral service, with Pastor Joy Leasure officiating, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, immediately followed by dinner at Vito’s 2 in Follansbee. Inurnment was held privately at Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Valley Hospice Care Center in memory of Alice at 4000 Johnson Rd. #2300, Steubenville, OH 43952.
