Pamela Powelson-Jones

PAMELA POWELSON-JONES of Weirton, WV passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, January 6, 2025. She was born June 9, 1954, at Weirton General Hospital, a daughter of Robert and Norma Mae Cole Powelson. She graduated from Brooke High School in 1972. In her early teenage years, her first job was at Thrift Drug on Main Street next to the Kusic Gas Station. She then worked at Jean Frock’s Clothing Store, and years later she worked at the Weirton Bus Terminal for the late Lou Fekaris; well known for the cigar always in his mouth and generous laugh. In 1976, she married Pete Jones, they shared a son Thomas. He truly was the love of her life, being a stay-at-home mom, they were able to spend a lot of time together. In 1994, she started working at the Eat-n-Park in Weirton, later advancing to a hostess trainer. She loved her job and her longtime customers, sharing her jokes and stories, hoping to brighten their day. For fifteen years, she organized the entertainment for the area’s annual Children’s Hospital “Tips for Tots Day” at the local Eat-n-Park in Weirton. The campaign was very successful, becoming an annual event, enjoyed by both employees and customers, resulting in the Weirton location Eat-N-Park raising the most money for ten straight years. She never knew a stranger, doing anything for anybody, you just had to ask, or she would do it anyway. Art was Pamela’s passion all her life, years ago, when they were designing the WV Quarter, the former governor, Joe Manchin, gave her an honorable mention for her creative design. For over thirty years, she collected and read anything that had to do with Weirton’s history, where she had been a resident all her life. The book in question, “The History of Weirton, WV.,” was written by David Javersak, she and others helped to contribute to the development of this book. In addition to her parents, Pam was preceded in death by her husband Pete. Left to cherish her memory are her son Thomas (Teresa) Jones, sister Susan Mazzocco, and brother Bruce (Patti) Powelson all of Weirton, nieces Schelley (Brian) Shillington, and Trishann (Joe) Sacripanti, great-niece Sophia Sacripanti and great-nephew Rocco Sacripanti. Friends were invited to visit Pam’s family on Friday, January 10, 2025 until the time of her funeral service, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, with Chaplain Jenna Moon officiating. Pam’s request for cremation was honored. She was cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory.
