CHARLES LEROY SMITH, 81, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, WV. Born on July 21, 1943, in Wheeling, WV a son of the late Roy J. and Eileen Mildred (Newton) Smith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Rose Smith. He attended Wellsburg High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Weirton Steel Corporation in his early years and then for the City of Wellsburg in the Sanitation Department. Most of his life he operated as a carpenter and owned his own wood shop called Smitty’s Wood Shop. Charles was a member of the Wellsburg Chrisitan Church, the Wellsburg Loyal Order of Moose #1564, the V.F.W., the Eagles Club where he also worked as a bartender. Charles is survived by siblings, Dora Louthen and Wayne (Susan) Smith, both of Wellsburg, WV, and Judy (Stanley) Black of Colliers, WV; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 until the time of services, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, with Pastor Lori Williams officiating Interment followed in Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg.
