Donald Lee McCormick

DONALD LEE MCCORMICK, 72, of Weirton, WV, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at his residence under the care of his wife and daughter with the assistance of Amedisys Hospice. Donald was born on May 21, 1952 in Michigan City, IN. He was the son of the late Vincent Arthur McCormick and Mary Jane (Moffitt) McCormick. Donald served proudly in the United States Air Force as an Airplane Frame Specialist with the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War serving in Korea, in addition to receiving the National Service Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He worked for 15 years at the Indiana State Maximum Security Penitentiary with the rank as a Sergeant after which he worked as a Security Guard at Trinity West. Many will remember Donald for his bravery in serving in armed forces and the penitentiary surviving being stabbed 17 times, tinkering around and scrapping metal; but most of all, Donald lived a happy life. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his 10 siblings. Donald is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy Louise (Dinch) McCormick of Weirton, WV; two children, Vincent Arthur McCormick and his wife, Sarah of Michigan City, IN and Stacy Barnhart and her husband, Ronald of Colliers, WV; four grandchildren: Ronald Barnhart. Jr. and his wife, Robin; Jessica Lynn Barnhart; and Abby and Sean McCormick; four great grandchildren: Ryan Barnhart, Nova Blevins Barnhart, Chevy Blevins and Cheyenne Truex; several step great grandchildren; three siblings: Gail Kolisa and her husband, Ronny, Mary Alice Bommer and her husband, John, and Doug McCormick and his wife, Brenda; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends were received on Sunday, January 26, 2025 and again on Monday, January 27, 2025 until the time of the funeral service, at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, with Chaplain Jon Hudnall of Amedisys Hospice officiating. A patriotic escort by the members of the WV and PA Patriot Guards to his Interment at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA was held with Military Honors by the United States Air Force and the Brentwood American Legion. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Brian Thomas and the Cancer Center at Weirton Medical Center for their care and support given to Donald as well as his family, in addition to the care team of Amedisys Hospice, especially Amber.
