GENO ANTHONY SANTANGELO, 89, of Follansbee, WV died peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025, in the care of Valley Hospice North in Steubenville, OH. Born on August 7, 1935, in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Anthony and Flora (Maggi) Santangelo. In addition to his parents, Geno is preceded in death by his brother, Guido Santangelo. After attending Steubenville Catholic Central High School, Geno joined the US Navy and served in the Korean War. He later retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation where he worked in shipping. Geno was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He leaves to behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Irene (Sciarretti) Santangelo at home; four devoted children: Valerie Santangelo, Anthony (Nancy) Santangelo both of Follansbee, WV, Geno (Sonya) Santangelo and Christopher (Cheryl) Santangelo, both of Hurricane, WV; eight grandchildren: Ryan (Alexis), Anthony, Sophia, Luke, Rocco, Giuliana Santangelo, and Megan and Kathryn Smith; two great grandchildren, Greyson and Addison Santangelo; one sister, Josephine Walker of California; a brother-in-law, Gabriel (Donna) Sciarretti of Dover, OH; three sisters-in-law, Rita Ficca and Vickey (Albert) Ross both of Follansbee, WV and Anna Santangelo of Bloomingdale, OH; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation for Geno was held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee. A vigil service was also held on Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Father Justin Golna officiating. A Catholic funeral mass was held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Follansbee, with Rev. Father William Metzger as celebrant. Entombment followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville, OH. Full military honors were conducted by the Ohio Vallley Veterans Memorial Squad and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
