SANDRA F. URBOWICZ, 84, of Weirton, WV passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Weirton Geriatric Center surrounded by family and dearest friends. Born in Johnstown, PA, on September 17, 1940, Sandy was a beloved daughter of Michael and Helena Nagy Krivak. She was a woman of warmth, faith, generosity, and love, known to many simply as “Nana.” Her home was always open, and her heart was even bigger. Sandy had a deep love for oldies’ music and was well-known for her fondness of the Bee Gees’ classic, Stayin’ Alive. She shared a beautiful life with her husband, Walter, who passed away on December 4, 2007. Together, they found joy in their home, surrounded by family, friends, and laughter. A Catholic by faith, Sandy often sought the intercession of the saints as she prayed the rosary and attended novena with her best friends. In the summer, she could be found watering her flowers or sitting poolside, enjoying a glass of Sangria. In the winter, she never missed a Hallmark movie. She was a proud and devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, always coaching (read: yelling obscenities) from the couch. She was known for her delicious stromboli, and she never missed an opportunity to “play her numbers.” Sandy gave back to her community, volunteering at St. Paul School as a beloved lunch lady for several years. She cherished her neighbors as extended family and adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandson, and great-niece and great-nephews who brought her endless happiness. Her grandchildren were everything to her. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her husband Walter, son Mark Urbowicz, and son-in-law Tommy Cooper. Left to cherish her memory with love and complete admiration are her daughters, JoLynn (Sally Sligar) Urbowicz of Westerville, OH., Carol Cooper of Weirton, daughter-in-law Barb Urbowicz, grandchildren Dr. Courtney (Ethan) Levendorf, Taylor (Gregory) Engeler, Matthew (Allison) Urbowicz, great-grandson Nolan Engeler, brother Dennis (Janice) Krivak and sister Judy (Bob) Welch, nieces Amy Welch and Torie (Mike) Mazurek, nephews Jeffrey (Maria) Welch and Jason (Marcie) Krivak, great-niece Aubry Krivak, and great-nephews Alec Krivak and Andrew Krivak. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Weirton Geriatric Center for their compassionate care. Friends may visit Sandy’s family on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 5 p.m. until the time of her 7 p.m. memorial service, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton. Mr. Lary Arnett will Officiate. Sandy’s wish for cremation will be honored. She will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory. Memorial donations may be made in Sandy’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org. Share online condolences at www.grecohertnick.com.
