Sarah Virginia (Sallie) Weese Messar

SARAH VIRGINIA (SALLIE) WEESE MESSAR, 81, of Wellsburg, WV, who was a Grandmother, Mother, Aunt, Sister, Caring friend, passed into our memories on Sunday, February 9, 2025 and is now living deep within our hearts. Sallie was the second daughter born to Randolph (Red) and Virginia (Deanie) Friend Weese. In addtion to her parents, she is preceded in death by her infant son, James Todd Messar. She grew up laughing and playing with friends on High Street; she danced as a teen through her years at Wellsburg High School. Following her graduation in 1961, Sallie attended the School of Cosmetology in Wheeling becoming a beautician and working until her marriage to George Messar, Jr. in 1964. Throughout their sixty years together they not only raised a daughter but also lovingly mentored nephews, nieces, friends, and neighbors. She was YaYa, Aunt Sallie, and she was Uncle Snork. Ever firm in her beliefs and opinions yet willingly generous, Sallie devoted time, energy, and resources to community services including the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Department and The American Legion Post 34. Those left to carry her in their hearts include her husband, George; daughter, Lisa Carey and her companion Nick Lalich; granddaughter, Leannda Cavalier (Adam); grandson, Tyler Carey; great granddaughters, Siena and Adria Cavalier; sister, Sue Wilcox (Harland); several nieces and nephews including David Wilcox (Carolyn), George (Lisa) Arthurs, David Arthurs, Monica (John) Sutphin, and Richard Arthurs and fiancé, Clarissa Ray; her ex-son-in-law, Richard Carey; and many friends. Per Sallie’s wishes there was no visitation. A memorial service is being planned for the near future. Arrangements were under the direction of Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee.
