Diego Fernandez Cid

DIEGO FERNANDEZ CID, 36, of Weirton, WV, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Born on November 14, 1988, in Temascal, Oaxaca, Mexico, Diego was the beloved oldest son of Cirilo Fernandez Gonzalez and Virginia Cid Olivarez. He grew up in Oaxaca, attending school there before moving to the United States at the age of nineteen in pursuit of new opportunities. In 2011, Diego began working at Chico Fiesta Mexican Restaurant, where he not only built a career but also formed deep friendships with colleagues and customers alike. Known for his warm and welcoming nature, he truly never met a stranger. His kindness made him a friend to many, and his presence will be greatly missed. Diego had a passion for life and a love for many things, especially soccer. He spent countless hours playing the game and making memories at one of his favorite places, The Sports Court. Music was another great love of his—he enjoyed both Spanish and English rap and most recently attended a T-Pain concert. Diego had an opportunity to attend two Pittsburgh Steelers games, an experience he would never forget. He found joy in the simple moments—walking through Point State Park in Pittsburgh, exploring the beauty of Raccoon State Park, and traveling to Put-In-Bay. Diego was also a food enthusiast who loved trying different restaurants. Among his favorites were mozzarella sticks, steak, and a variety of soups, and he recently enjoyed dining at Basil’s. Above all, Diego had a deep love for his family, especially his mother, with whom he spoke every day. His heart remained connected to his roots in Mexico, even as he built a life filled with friendship and adventure in the United States. Left to cherish Diego’s Memory are his parents, two brothers and three sisters, and many, many friends who grew very fond of him throughout his life’s journey. Diego will be remembered for his kindness, laughter, and the way he brought people together. His presence brightened the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Friends were inivited to visit Diego’s family and friends on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton.
