Schawn “Dakota” Degenstein

SCHAWN “DAKOTA” DEGENSTEIN, 64, of Weirton, WV, formerly of Everett, Washington passed away February 25, 2025 at Weirton Medical Center. He was born November 2, 1960 in Minot, North Dakota. He is the son of Betty Jean Weninger Degenstein and the late John Degenstein. Schawn is a US Veteran who served in Communications in the Airforce. Schawn’s motivation and heart was for his family, he enjoyed genealogy and knowing his roots which included staying connected with cousins, etc. from North Dakota, Canada and surrounding states. Schawn went by “Gruncle” to his nieces and nephews. His most recent career was driving truck, he talked about one day having his own truck and naming it “FIVE DAUGHTERS”! Schawn’s interest and hobbies included nature watching in his backyard and enjoying Hallmark movies, he was romantic with a tender heart. He loved campfires, riding motorcycles, watching football especially the Seahawks, tinkering with home projects, crosswords, trivia, games, puzzles, cut-throat cribbage, karaoke and collecting coins and stamps. In addition to his mother, Schawn is survived by his loving wife, Leslee Henderson Degenstein. Daughters: Shari Lynn Klein, Lisa Nicole Blauvelt (Bryant), Alex Fisher, Kathryn Fisher, and Josee Farmer; Nine grandchildren: Nathan, Riley, Elijah, Hailey, Chloe, Violet, Dakota, Serena, and Avery; Sisters: Michelle Belleau (Terry), Tricia Reaves Stafford; Half-sisters: Johnaceta Degenstein, Charlene Degenstein and Half-brother: Marlon Degenstein (Amanda). Schawn’s ashes will be brought to Washington State where the family will hold a Celebration of Life in spring/summer of 2025.
