Donald O. MacLachlan

DONALD O. MACLACHLAN, 77, of Weirton, WV passed away peacefully at Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville on Saturday, March 1, 2025. He was born in Washington, D.C., on August 4, 1947, the only son of Donald and Thelma Louise Hoffman MacLachlan. Don graduated from Oxon Hill High School, in Forrest Heights, MD., in 1966. Don dedicated 37 years of his life working in the Blast Furnace at Weirton Steel, embodying the resilience and work ethic of the American steelworker. Outside work, he found joy in the open road, riding his Harley throughout the Ohio Valley and making the legendary trip to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. A devoted husband, Don married the love of his life, Patricia Starr, after meeting her in Alexandria, Virginia. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. A hardworking, kind, and generous man, Donald was a dedicated provider for his family. He was a “jack of all trades,” always willing to lend a hand. He was a fan of Pittsburgh sports every season as well as all sorts of music, Jimmy Buffett included. His adventurous spirit took him on many trips to North Myrtle Beach as well as Disney World. Don was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory with complete love and admiration are his wife Patricia Starr MacLachlan, whom he married on June 6, 1971, daughter Cynthia (Bryan) Burton of Columbia, Ky., and sister Betty ( Joe) Phillips of Forney, TX. Friends were inivited to visit Don’s family Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, where funeral services were celebrated Thursday, March 6, 2025, with Rev. William C. Stout officiating. Burial followed immediately in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Share online condolences at www.grecohertnick.com.
