Joseph Jaskiewicz

JOSEPH JASKIEWICZ, 79, passed away in his sleep on the morning of March 16, 2025. He would have celebrated his 80th birthday on March 28. Joe was the son of the late Joseph and Laura (Haber) and the brother of the late Edward Jaskiewicz. As a child he loved all sorts of ball games but at age 14 was diagnosed with a very rare form of intestinal cancer. His life was then spent enduring experimental surgeries and treatments which allowed him to enjoy a long, productive life with his wife of 55 years, two children, and five grandchildren. A graduate of West Liberty College in 1970, he began teaching physics and coaching freshman football for Wheeling Central. In 1975, he came to his alma mater Weir High and at times Weir Middle, as needed, teaching math and coaching freshman football, and for a few years girl’s track. After 24 years he retired due to failing health and spent the time watching the Steelers and Weir High football games. Joe worked several parttime jobs over the years but used spare time to tinker in plumbing, electrical work, camping with family, gardening, and his most favorite hobby of all repairing, painting, and restoring his 1971 VW Super Beetle. As his health continued to decline, his one regret was he never was able to finish the restoration. The biggest highlight of Joe’s life was a trip to the ancestral villages in Poland. He walked the land, saw the 150 year old family home, and most importantly met and talked with surviving relatives. Joe is survived by his wife Beverly, son Peter (Renee), daughter Angela (Jason) Hillenbrand, and the joys of his life, grandchildren Allison and Elizabeth Hillenbrand and Sunnee, Ryleigh, and Grayson Riggs. He is also survived by his sister, RoseAnne Yahnke. He will be remembered in their hearts always.
