BHS Student Receives Scholarship

Brooke High School senior Curtis “Triston” Stevens has been named the recipient of the Bonner Scholarship at Waynesburg University. He will be part of the Bonner Scholar program, where the focus is on community service and leadership.
To qualify, incoming freshmen must complete the scholarship application and interview process, maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and place in the top 40 percent of their graduating class. Scholars must complete 140 hours of unpaid community service, training and enrichment for a nonprofit organization every semester, and complete two summers of 280 hours of community service each summer with a nonprofit organization.
Stevens was selected due to his solid academic performance and demonstration of service to his community. His service began with him organizing flood cleanup efforts with the football team and coaching the Bantam Little Bruins. He plans to continue volunteering with the team each summer before leaving for college and while at home.
He is a role model to the communities youth and to his peers, leading by example and setting a high standard. He is a two-year Bruin leader, member of the OVAC Leadership Board, a Future Leaders program member, football team captain, West Virginia mat academic all state, OVAC honorable mention in football and recently named to the 2025 Bruins Best. He attended two summers at the West Virginia National Guard Youth Leaders Camp, where he was a platoon leader and awarded the most physically fit and the Spirit Leadership award.
This year, he is the recipient of the West Virginia Army National Guard Leadership Award, was named impact player of the week and recipient of the Paul “Bud” Billiard Award.
Triston will be attending Waynesburg University in the fall, where he will be majoring in athletic training and playing football.
