LEON EVERETT COX, 86, of Wellsburg, WV and a resident of the Welty Home for the Aged, Wheeling, WV, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at WVU Medicine – Reynolds Memorial, Glen Dale, WV. Leon was born on October 3, 1938 in Danville, PA. He was the son of the late Bernard Cox and Merle (Propst) Cox. Leon earned his Master’s in Education with additional credits. He worked 33 years to his retirement from the Brooke County School System as a Guidance Counselor at Brooke High School. Leon loved his faith and community. He demonstrated that through his membership at the Wellsburg United Methodist Church serving as a Board of Trustee, Lay Leader, Certified Preacher and the Wellsburg Kiwanis Club serving the club well in many capacities including Past Distinguished President, Past Lt. Governor, Hixson Fellow, 33-years Key Club Faculty Advisor and had chaired the Luminary Project. Leon lived the Kiwanis Motto of serving the Children of the World through his career and his leadership. He was a member of the Gideons Society as well. Our community smiles because Leon made a difference. Leon also had a passion as a gardener being a Master Gardener and member of the Chrysanthemum Society. In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Cox, and his son, Stephen Cox. Leon is survived by his son, Timothy Cox and his wife, Kristen of Murrysville, PA and two grandchildren, Brian and Kevin Cox. Per Leon’s wishes, there was no visitation or service. The Chamber Funeral Home, Wellsburg was honored and privileged to serve the Cox family with a simple cremation and a private scattering of his remains. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsburg United Methodist Church of the Wellsburg Kiwanis Club, C/o Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV 26070 so that Leon’s legacy of love, guidance, faith and leadership can foster a better tomorrow in the community.
