Richard Leroy “Dick” Smith, Jr.

RICHARD LEROY “DICK” SMITH, JR., 76, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Weirton Medical Center. Born September 16, 1948 in Wheeling, WV a son of the late Richard Leroy and Alice (DeGarmo) Smith, Sr. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Ann Wilson and Carol Smith, and one brother, Thomas Smith. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1966 and later retired from Weirton Steel Corporation after 35 years as a pipefitter and in the mechanical maintenance department, and later he worked at Timet in Toronto, OH for over five years. Dick was an active member of the Wellsburg Loyal Order of Moose #1564 and Christian by faith. In his spare time he coached little league baseball namely the “Dodgers” in the Brooke Hills Park League and he enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family making them laugh all the time. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers along with the W.V.U. Mountaineers waiting after every game to hear Country Roads. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Donna (Schoonmaker) Smith at home; three children: Richard (April) Smith of Weirton, WV, April (Wes) Boyd of Steubenville, OH, and Thomas “TJ” (Deborah) Smith of Weirton; nine grandchildren: Richard (Amberleigh), Ashley, Angeline (Jon), Kaylee, Dante (Areaha), Tucker, Wyatt, Brian, Sarabeth, and Rikki; nine great-grandchildren: Braxley, Olivia, Mikey, Lincoln, Amelia, Evangeline, Parker and Brailee; and several nieces and nephews. Dick gave the gift of life by being a C.O.R.E. donor. A private family gathering was held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee.
