This time around, Pete Fernbaugh, artistic director and head writer for Cloak and Dagger On the Air, has adapted two adventures from the second Sherlock Holmes collection, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The first story, “The Adventure of the Reigate Squire,” finds Watson relocating Holmes to the country in order for the famed detective to recuperate after a strenuous international case. Naturally, a local murder and peculiar burglary ends up monopolizing their attention.
The second story, “The Adventure of the Crooked Man,” was one of Conan Doyle’s favorite Holmes stories, perhaps because of its Biblical parallels and the locked-room nature of the mystery. The death of a well-regarded colonel, seemingly at the hands of his wife, brings to light a dark secret from his past.
“When people ask me which episodes are audience favorites, I don’t have to think too hard,” Fernbaugh said. “People not only love Holmes and Watson, they love the actors who play them in our productions: John E. Reilly and Robert J. Gaudio. Over the years, we’ve seen many variations on these characters, but for our show, we provide straightforward adaptations, true to the original text and true to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s vision and intent.”
Alongside Reilly and Gaudio are Cloak and Dagger On the Air’s acting troupe, The Wayward Saints: Joey Albus, Bethany Fernbaugh, Pete Fernbaugh, David Gaudio, Clare McDonald, Malachi McClendon, Ralph Parissi, Terri Perry, and Dave Zanieski.
Also this month, child actor Abby Perry returns to star in the latest chapter of Emily Penelope’s Fabulous Flights of Fancy, titled “Operation: Brain Game.”
“I created Emily Penelope with the intent of paying homage to the classic serials of the Golden Age of Radio, such as Little Orphan Annie and The Adventures of Superman,” Fernbaugh said. “I’ve had a lot of fun updating this format to a contemporary setting and featuring a modern kid who uses her imagination to process the pressures of growing up in an age where kids are forced to grow up too fast. Although her problems are presented in a current context, they’re also timeless and relatable to all generations.”
Sound effects for the production will be performed by sound effects team, the Holy Foley Molies, and classical pianist Roberta Fedoush will accompany the episode with a score derived from various works of legendary composers.
Top of WV CVB is located at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17, Weirton, behind Crazy Mexican, next to Weirton Pet Spa, and across the parking lot from Bistro 303 Prime Cuisine.
“We encourage folks to set aside some extra time to check out the local businesses around us,” Fernbaugh said. “Three Springs Drive is filled with many dining and shopping opportunities. We hope our show can bring some traffic their way.”
