James Leroy Waugh, Jr.

JAMES LEROY WAUGH, JR., 55, of Follansbee, WV, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Valley Hospice Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV, after a long battle with cancer and recent heart disease. James was born on March 29, 1970 in Steubenville, OH. He was the son of the late James Leroy Waugh Sr. and Bonnie Jean (Vincent) Waugh. James worked at Ziegenfelder Frozen Treat Company, Wheeling. Many will remember James for his love of fishing and the Great Outdoors, always being the jokester, wanting to always be with family and friends; but most of all, being a free spirit that was born to travel and backpack on adventures. James is survived by his three children: James Michael Waugh, Shyria Works and her husband, and Brenden Thompson, all of Wheeling, WV; three grandchildren, Renesmee Dawn Waugh, James Michael Waugh, Jr. and Domenic Works; a sister, Nancy Pratt and her husband, Orville of Wellsburg; two nieces; a nephew; and numerous cousins and friends. The James Funeral Home of Follansbee was honored and privileged to serve the Waugh family with a simple cremation and scattering his remains at his favorite fishing spot. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care and compassion shown to James and his loved ones during his illness. They are deeply thankful to the dedicated teams at the Cancer Center at Weirton Medical Center, Allegheny General Hospital, and Liza’s Place. A special thanks goes to his devoted caregivers—Martha, Mary, and Robin—whose kindness and support brought great comfort, WV TBI for their care as well for his traumatic brain injury and sincerely grateful to the James Funeral Home for their patience and care, especially to Eric Fithyan, Owner, for his personal guidance and support during this time.
