Milton “Matt” Matthew Ceran

MILTON “MATT” MATTHEW CERAN, 63, of Weirton, WV, a beloved husband, father, Pap- Pap, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at the Weirton Geriatric Center after a courageous battle with Frontotemporal Dementia with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA). Born on May 5, 1962, in Weirton, WV, Matt was the son and youngest of four children born to the late Milton and Mary Jean (Norman) Ceran. He graduated from Weir High School in 1980 and went on to build a diverse and hardworking career. Most recently, he retired from TD Williamson in Burgettstown, PA in 2021 due to his illness. Throughout his life, Matt also worked in construction, at a zinc mill, and even helped refurbish Boeing 747s—always applying his skilled hands and strong work ethic. Matt found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved working outdoors in his yard and garden, taking family vacations to Topsail Island, NC, and tinkering in his garage—his favorite place to “piddle.” He cherished time spent at home surrounded by those he loved most. A passionate motocross racer in his youth, Matt began racing in Trail N Track. Later, he traveled the country racing, embodying his fearless motto: “win or crash and burn.” His racing days earned him numerous trophies and lasting memories. A true music lover, Matt appreciated all genres—from rock and country to classical. He nourished his faith at Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. Socially he enjoyed being a member of the Weirton Moose Lodge 688. In addition to his parents, Matt was preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Taylor Ceran, in 2022, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Shirley Boag. Matt’s legacy of love, humor, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, including his devoted wife and soulmate of 30 years, Carol (Boag) Ceran of Weirton; his daughter, Courtney (Joe) Petrovich, and his son, Matthew (Danica) Ceran, both of Weirton; and his four treasured grandsons: Zak, Eli, Anthony, and George; his two sisters, Patty (Greg) Ex of Au Gres, MI, and Dorothy (Rick) Powell of New Cumberland, WV, along with several loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. Visitation was held Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, where funeral services were held on Friday, May 9, 2025, with Fr. Tony Thurston presiding. Matt was laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Matt’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Golden Acres Unit at Weirton Geriatric Center for the compassionate care they provided to him and the entire family during the past three months.
