BHP to Hold Last Auditions for the Season

Brooke Hills Playhouse will hold its last two auditions for the 54th season on Saturday, June 14, at the Playhouse.
Director Chelsey Barnhart from Wellsburg will hold auditions for the children ’ s show, “ The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe” at 10 a.m. This dramatization of C. S. Lewis’s classic work faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia.
Both children and adults are encouraged to come out and try for a variety of roles, which include Aslan, the king of Narnia; the White Witch, the evil queen of Narnia; Peter Pevensie, the oldest of the children, who is noble and courageous; Susan Pevensie, the second oldest of the children who is beautiful, sweet, and kind; Edmund Pevensie, the third oldest child who is spiteful and mean; Lucy Pevensie, the youngest child, who is curious and happy-go-lucky; Tumnus, a faun; Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, forest animals; a unicorn and centaur, forest animals; Fenris Ulf, a wolf who is head of the Witch’s secret police; Dwarf, a servant of the witch; Father Christmas, a bringer of gifts; White Stag, an elusive omen of good fortune; Aslan’s followers, forest animals; Witch’s army, evil villains; and Wood Nymphs, stage helpers.
Auditions consist of improvisations, theater games, and cold readings from the script.
At noon, Bill Deerfield from Weirton will hold auditions for “Always a Bridesmaid,” written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. In this hilarious comedic romp, four friends have sworn to keep the promise they made on the night of their Senior Prom: to be in each other’s weddings no matter what. More than 30 years later, these southern friends-for-life are still making “the long walk” for each other, determined to honor that vow.
Characters include Kari Ames – Bissette, who is in her late 20s and is a kind-hearted, spirited southern charmer; Libby Ruth Ames, a hopeless romantic in her late 40s, who is a sweet country woman, plain-spoken and guileless; Sedalia Ellicott, a gregarious, energetic Virginia hostess and life force in her 60s; Monette Gentry, who is in her late 40s and is kind of flashy, kind of trashy, southern-to-the-bone flirt; Charlie Collins, a tree-hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, acerbic Southern free spirit in her late 40s; and Deedra Wingate, a headstrong with a dry wit, no-nonsense northern transplant in her late 40s.
Auditions consist of cold readings from the script.
Performance dates for “ The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe” are August 1-3 and 8-10. Performance dates for “ Always a Bridesmaid” are August 22-24 and 29-31.
