Pull Up A Chair

By: Hettie Basil Lighttower

This story is a short but sweet story. It is a true story anonymously of a person that I have known for about 20 years. I hope it encourages anyone going through what seems like a tragedy or even a death sentence. Sometimes cancer can feel like both. Sometimes it is both.
But what if cancer comes to teach us something? What if cancer comes for us to reach ourselves in a way we have never reached ourselves before? What if we never experienced cancer and we just stay asleep and miss an opportunity to become the magnificent person that we were meant to be? What if we stay in our egos and convince ourselves we are all that we need? Cancer brings us into our truth, into God’s truth. The truth sets us free.
What if cancer comes to show us who God is? What if cancer comes to help us reach and experience the majesty of God? What if cancer comes to let us experience the raw and holy grace of God? What if cancer comes to reunite us with God? Have you considered God had tried to get our attention before, but we ignored the subtle attempts and now he means business?
What if we learned not to use words like “fighting cancer” “battling cancer” “fight like a girl” “I hate cancer” or even profanities expressing the loathing of cancer? What if we didn’t think of cancer as an enemy or something to fight at all, but it is actually a gift? If we viewed it as being chosen to embark on a spiritual express train; a golden ticket, where all we have to do is buckle up and see where it takes us and God is the PILOT… not a co-pilot, how would that change our perspective and healing capacity?
If you have never heard of Anita Moorjani, you might want to look her up. She wrote a book called “Dying to Be Me”. She came from a death experience through her tumor riddled body and had actually died. She learned while in spirit that her life was more valuable than she realized and that it was an important thread in the tapestry of history as were every lives of every person. We all are a thread to which as we intertwine and interact with each other and with creation we create the most beautiful pattern and tapestry etched in the fabric of life itself.
I met Anita and have a photo of she and I together in 2018 just after my own stage four cancer journey and miraculous healing. And now let’s read this personal friend of mine’s story…..
The story……… in his words…… “Nearly nine months ago I was faced with the news that my Stage 3 Melanoma Cancer had spread to my brain. Now with Stage 4 Cancer I carried the burden everyday of knowing I had six tumors in my brain with the prognosis that I had six months to live if I didn’t seek treatment, or if the treatment didn’t work.
My life drastically changed for what I thought was the worst – relationship, financial and health all took on new meaning within days. I wanted to give up, instead I seeked treatment, advice and most importantly, God. Over the course of those nine months my life started to change; started to get better with each day. I started to go to Church of Eleven22, prayed multiple times a day. Asking for guidance, help and most importantly, seeked His Grace.
On March 8th, I surrendered. On March 9th, I signed up to get Baptized. On March 10th, I received news that the first five tumors appeared to be dying and we came up with a plan to attack the sixth one. On March 11th, a beautiful woman walked into my life and hasn’t left my side since. On May 18th, I got Baptized in the ocean alongside 1,957 others.
And… on May 30th, after meeting with my Neurologist, I am glad to announce that all 6 tumors in my brain are gone and recent CT scan results show no signs of cancer in any other part of my body.
God, through Doctor’s and their tools of medicine, but most importantly through His grace, not only healed me but destroyed the cancer.
God has plans for all of us. All we have to do is believe and put our faith in Him. It took me 49 years to understand that. If you haven’t found Him, I strongly encourage you to do so. If you’ve been looking for a reason to believe in Him, then I hope my testimony has helped you.”
