Charles H. “Poke” Beall III

CHARLES H. “POKE” BEALL III, 79, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 19, 1945, in Wellsburg, he was the son of the late Charles and Geraldine (Fleming) Beall. Poke was a proud Vietnam War veteran who served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Enterprise. His service to his country was a point of pride throughout his life. Poke graduated from West Virginia University and, after serving his country, returned home to work at Wheeling/Pittsburgh Steel. Later, he transitioned to the family business, Robert Scott Lumber, where he was an integral part of the community for many years. On August 4, 1973, he married the love of his life, Sue Rieke, and together they raised two children, Jonathan (Deanna) Beall and Emily (Stephanie) Beall. He was a devoted father and later became a proud grandfather to Bailee and Chase Beall. Poke was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Wellsburg Lions Club, and The Business Corporation of the Ohio Valley. He dedicated much of his time to serving his community, having proudly sat on several boards of directors throughout Brooke County. In addition to his immediate family, Poke is survived by his siblings: Chris (Debbie) Beall, Courtney (Sharon) Beall, and Tina (Curtis) Postlethwait, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and beloved dog, Sammy, who will miss him dearly. Poke’s legacy of service, dedication, and kindness will not be forgotten. His warm heart, sense of humor, and love for his community made him a beloved figure to all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Poke’s memory to the Wellsburg Lions Club or the Brooke High School Tennis Scholarship Fund. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass was held Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Wellsburg, with Father Justin Golna as Celebrant.
