Valerie Ann (Riggs) Wells

VALERIE ANN (RIGGS) WELLS, 65, of Colliers, WV, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Trinity Medical Center, Steubenville, OH. Valerie was born on August 13, 1959 in Wheeling, WV. She was the daughter of the late Hobart “Geral” Riggs and Laura Mae (Hiley) Riggs. Valerie retired following 30 years of service with the Department of Health and Human Resources, where she served as an Economic Services Supervisor in the Weirton and Wheeling offices. Her colleagues remember her not only for her professionalism and dedication, but also for the kindness and compassion she extended to those she worked with and served. Valerie will be fondly remembered for the many joys she brought into the lives of others—her love of crocheting and cooking, the beauty she brought each year by planting flowers in the spring and summer, and her deep enjoyment of reading mystery novels. Above all, Valerie treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and love that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Valerie was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffrey Lynn Wells and a brother, Daniel Riggs. Valerie is survived by her two daughters, Shannon Eakle of Colliers, WV and Desirrae Miller and her husband, Christopher of Wellsburg, WV; four grandchildren, Rainna, Evan, Samaya and Camdyn; three siblings: Diana Stoaks of Follansbee, WV, Tim Riggs and his wife, Sandy of Madison, WV and Rodney Riggs of Wetampka, AL; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends were received on Monday, June 9, 2025 until the time of the memorial service, at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, with Russ Buchanan and her son-in-law, Christopher, officiating.
