John Richard Care, Sr.

JOHN RICHARD CARE, SR., 87, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at his residence under the care of his son with the assistance of Valley Hospice. John was born on November 30, 1937 in Steubenville, OH. He was the son of the late Thomas Care and Virginia (Owens) Care. John proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Sierra, achieving the rank of YN3 (Yeoman Third Class). John retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and held various jobs afterward, including selling cars, delivering Motor Homes, and, most recently, working at Cabela’s. He will be fondly remembered by many for his deep passion for shooting guns. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Doris June (Pfister) Care in February 25, 2024 and his brother, Tom Care. John is survived by his two children, Rebecca Care and John R. Care Jr. and nieces and nephews. Family and friends were received on Monday, June 16, 2025 until the time of the service, at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, with Pastor Frank Haas officiating, in addition to Military Salute by the United States Navy and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
