Michael A. Groch, 39, of Wellsburg has been identified as a suspect after a shooting in Brooke County last Friday.
“The suspect is Michael A, Groch, 39, from Wellsburg and then the victim was 58-year-old Kerry Casto from Mingo Junction, Ohio,” said Brooke County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Douglas Mills.
Groch was immediately taken into custody, processed, and arraigned by a Brooke County magistrate. He is in the Northern Regional Jail facing a first-degree murder charge.
Casto was pronounced dead at the scene on Friday.
Mills said they are still investigating the motive.
“We have some preliminary information, nothing that I feel comfortable giving out just yet because it is still ongoing,” Mills said. “So, we are just trying to iron that out before we say what was the cause was of this incident.”
The investigation is ongoing.
The Wellsburg and Follansbee police departments, the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team and the Brooke-Hancock Drug Task Force all assisted the sheriff’s office.
