BHP to Present “9 to 5 The Musical”

“9 to 5 The Musical,” with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, will take the stage at Brooke Hills Playhouse July 11-13 and 18-20. Based on the 1980 hit movie and set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous and thought-provoking.
Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot otherwise known as their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy, and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy—giving their the boss the boot! While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.
Director Emily Hores of Wellsburg is enthusiastic about bringing the Dolly Parton musical to the Playhouse stage. “We are looking forward to bringing 9 to 5’s positive message of women lifting each other up and find-ing their voice to the Ohio Valley. Like the characters in the show, we are hoping that we inspire others to feel confident enough to stand up for themselves and each other when life gets difficult.”
Hores’ impressive cast includes Maura Danielle Reiff-Parissi from Wintersville, OH, as Violet Newstead; Emily Stuck from Wellsburg as Doralee Rhodes; Bethany Fernbaugh from Weirton as Judy Bernley; Ralph Parissi from Wintersville, OH, as Franklin Hart; Heather Deerfield from Weirton as Roz Keith; Jay Keener-Welsch from Wellsburg as Joe; and Cathy Brooks from Wheeling as Missy Hart and Kathy.
Also performing are Isaac Cardot from Wheeling as Dwayne; Tyler Hores from Wellsburg as Josh; Odessa Hores from Wheeling as Dolly Parton; Kelly Salatino from Weirton as Maria and Candy Striper; Steve Snyder from Follansbee as Dick and Mr. Tinsworthy; Niccole Welch from Wellsburg as Margaret and Doctor; and Ca-den Runkle from Weirton as Bob Enright and Intern.
Leading the overall musical performance is Lakin Weaver from Follansbee as Musical Director. The technical crew includes Emma Underwood from Weirton as Stage Manager; and Nicole DeVault from Weirton who manages lighting.
Hores encourages one and all to attend this high-energy musical. “It has been an extreme pleasure working with such a talented cast. There are a lot of technical aspects to this show, and the cast and crew have met every challenge that has been thrown our way.”
Municipal Mutual Insurance Company and Chambers and James Funeral Homes are season sponsors.
Performance times are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. The box office opens one hour prior to performance. Ticket prices are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors 55 years of age and older and students; and $12 for children 12 years of age and younger. Season passes are also still available.
