Kelli Jo Kennen

KELLI JO KENNEN, 37, of Weirton, WV, danced her way into the next great adventure on August 14, 2025, with her mother at her side and wrapped in the love of everyone lucky enough to know her. Born in Wheeling, WV on November 7, 1987, she was the beloved daughter of the late Michael Dennis Kennen and his wife, Karen (McBride) Kennen of Follansbee, WV. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Benjamin and Mathew Kennen, her paternal grandparents George and Joanna (Miller) Kennen, and her aunt, Laurie Kennen. Kelli is survived by her children, Niko (11) and Vaila (14) of Weirton, WV; her mother, Karen Kennen of Follansbee, WV; her husband, Sean Smith of Weirton; nieces Kaitlyn and Gemma Kennen; and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss her smile, her hugs, and her ability to make even an ordinary Tuesday feel special. Kelli was a bold spirit – valedictorian of her high school class, a wildly creative soul, and a force of love in every room she entered. Her style was loud, fearless, and entirely her own – bleach-blonde hair, bright makeup, bold fashion and colors that matched her energy. Whether she was painting, decorating, crafting, or putting together an outfit, she expressed herself without apology. Her presence was impossible to miss and unforgettable to witness. She loved music with her whole being – singing in the car, dancing in the kitchen, and filling every space with sound. Her eclectic taste, inspired by her father, was just one of the many ways she shared herself with the world. She lit up every gathering with her cooking, laughter, and spontaneous celebrations. Her beauty was magnetic, her kindness unconditional, and her humor made the world feel lighter. She embraced people from all walks of life, stood up for others without hesitation, and made even the smallest moments feel like something to remember. Family and friends were received on Monday, August 18, 2025 until the time of the Funeral Liturgy of the Word, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, with the Rev. Father Walter Ihejiere officiating. A celebration of life followed immediately in, Weirton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund for her children, Niko and Vaila, to support their future – because nothing would honor Kelli more than ensuring their dreams bloom as brightly as she did.
