Josephine Ann “Nana” Newton

JOSEPHINE ANN “NANA” NEWTON, 96, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Brightwood Center in Follansbee, WV with her family by her side. Born August 13, 1929, in Weirton, WV a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Abbonizio) Battista. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Richard Newton; three brothers, Ralph, Frank, Francis, and Thomas Battista; and sisters, Jenny Mainenti and Rose Osaba Rolotto. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society. Nana held many jobs having worked at Convenient and Pier 12, serving up her homemade goodies. She also babysat for several local families. Surviving are three devoted children, Stanley Newton and wife, Joanie, Robert “Bobby” Newton and wife, Justy, and Mary Margaret Rosso and husband, James all of Wellsburg, WV; six grandchildren: Kristen and wife Tiffany Newton, Michael Newton, Dante, Bella, and Sophia Rosso, and Cody Dodd and wife Mariah; a great grandson, Hayden Dodd; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee. A vigil service was also held Wednesday at the funeral home. A Catholic funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 10 a.m., at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Wellsburg, with the Rev. Father Justin Golna as celebrant. Interment will follow in Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg. Nana’s family would like to thank Brightwood Center and their staff for all the care she received.
