GEORGE ROBERT MAURER, SR., 79, of Follansbee, WV died peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Weirton Medical Center with his family by his side. Born June 21, 1946, in Wheeling, WV a son of the late George and Irene (Yano) Maurer. In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his son, George Robert Maurer, Jr., one brother, Peter Glenn Maurer, and two sisters, Judith Platt and Patricia Marko. George graduated from Follansbee High School in 1965 and went on to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat. He later retired from the Laborer’s Union #809 out of Steubenville, OH mainly for James White Construction. He was Catholic by Faith. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, working on vehicles and doting on his loving wife, Shirley taking her on all of her errands and fun excursions. Surviving is his loving wife of 51 years, Shirley May (Yaworski) Maurer at home; two children, Sonya (Sam) Bailey and Travis Maurer, both of Follansbee, WV; two grandchildren, Adrianna (Mac) Adams of Fairmont, WV and Jakob (Maddy) Bailey of Follansbee, WV; with his first great grandson on the way; along with several nieces and nephews. A private Funeral Liturgy of the Word was held at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, with the Rev. Father Gerald Muoka officiating. Interment was held privately in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Burgettstown, PA. Full military honors were conducted by the Army Honor Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
