John William Roberts

JOHN WILLIAM ROBERTS, 52, of New Cumberland, West Virginia, formerly of Galveston, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026, at WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center. John was born on February 9, 1973, in Galveston, Texas. He was the son of the late Sonny Martinez and Roya Jean (Graf) Martinez. John was an incredible soul with a deep love for cats and a joyful passion for collecting jewelry. He treasured every moment spent with family and friends, filling the lives of those around him with laughter, kindness, and warmth. His presence brought light into so many hearts, and his memory will continue to live on through all who loved him. John will be truly and deeply missed. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved husband, Robert Bruce Polewac, who passed away on May 21, 2024, and a brother, Burnis Gay. John is survived by his brothers, Daniel Martinez and his wife, Amanda and Richard Martinez; his four nephews, Justice, Tyler, Kolby, and Landon; and his amazing friends and chosen family, Heather Clayton and Ricky Cowan, and their children, Lilly May and Tamberann. The James Funeral Home of Follansbee assisted the family with a private cremation. In his final act of generosity, John gave the gift of life to others through C.O.R.E. (Center for Organ Recovery and Education). This selfless act was a true reflection of who he was—sharing life, laughter, kindness, and love, even during the most tragic hours.
