The Summit Art Gallery, in partnership with the Top of West Virginia Arts Council, is proud to present It’s All About Birds, a juried exhibition that invites viewers to explore and observe how birds fit into today’s world and how they connect to their own lives. The exhibition will be on display from Feb. 18 through April 9, with an opening reception on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 5-7 p.m. The public is invited to attend to reception, located inside the Top of West Virginia CVB, located at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17, Weirton.
Juried by Mountain State native and watercolorist Jes Reger Davis, the exhibition features original works by nearly thirty artists from Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Jefferson, Belmont, and Marshall counties. Through atmospheric brushstrokes and a deep appreciation for the natural world, Davis’ own work reflects a strong connection to the wild wonders of Appalachia.
It’s All About Birds includes many pieces featuring literal depictions of birds, but artists were also invited to submit broader interpretations of the theme including nests and feathers, migration patterns, symbolism, and personal reflections on nature.
The show highlights a variety of artistic disciplines, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and more. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best in Show, Second Place, and Third Place, with awards announced during the opening reception.
“This exhibition showcases the incredible creativity and talent within our region,” said Rachel Keeney, Executive Director of the Top of WV. “It’s worth seeing the range of perspectives on this theme from so many artists.”
Many of the works in the exhibition will be available for purchase. The gallery encourages the community to support local artists by attending the reception and visiting throughout the run of the show. Gallery hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and there is no admission fee to view the show.
