Madelon Dawn Jackson

MADELON DAWN JACKSON, 82, a beloved resident of Wellsburg, WV passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, February 26, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Marvin and Ada (Bullock) Platter born on November 1,1943. Madelon was a cornerstone of her community, remembered most vividly as the visionary founder of the Brooke Hills Spooktacular. Her passion for bringing joy and festive mystery to the Brooke County area transformed the local park into a seasonal destination, creating memories for generations of families. Madelon worked as the secretary for Reasner Funeral Home for many years. She served on the Brooke Hills Park Board, and she became a fixture at Brooke Hills Playhouse, where she brought the plays and musicals to life through costuming and spfx makeup. Madelon’s passion for her community didn’t go unnoticed, In 2002 Madelon was awarded the Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. Beyond her community contributions, Madelon was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Lonney Howard Jackson; her nephew, Scott Jackson; and her beloved friends Mark Kowcheck, and Sissy Griffith. Her legacy is carried on by her two sons, Doug Jackson (Emily Hores) and Chris Jackson, all of Wellsburg, WV; her grandchildren, Katie Castellucci of Boston, MA, and Brynna Jackson of Wellsburg; her siblings, Marvin Platter, Jr. (Kathy Platter) of Avella, PA, and Ruth Ann Platter Stewart (Tom Stewart) of Melbourne, FL; special extended family: Theresa Reed Kowcheck, Jentzen Kowcheck, Karleigh Kowcheck, Joei Platt (Rich Fletcher), and Kay Weimer (Brent Weimer); her nieces and nephews: Jami Packer (Morgan Kent), Cari Jo Diserio, Dustin Platter (Yareni Platter), Kaycee Platter, Ty Platter (Dani Platter), Heidi Jackson, Lisa Sale, Ashly Jackson, and Bernie Jackson; and many other loving nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to recognize and thank Valley Hospice and Ann’s Country Retreat for all the loving care they have provided to Madelon and our family. A celebration of Madelon’s life will be announced at a later date.
