Gregory Charles Cheeks

GREGORY CHARLES CHEEKS, 76, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Wheeling Hospital. He was born on September 10, 1949, in Wheeling, WV a son of the late Richard “Dick” Cheeks and Jacqueline “Jackie” (Joyce) Cheeks In addition to his parents, Greg is preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Sue Kiger, his brother, Robert Martin “Marty” Cheeks and a sister Karen (Cheeks) Coen. Greg graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1967 and went on to serve in the Army in Vietnam. He later retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel after 28 years of service. He was very active in the community and held memberships in the Wellsburg Loyal Order of Moose and served as a volunteer Fireman and Chaplain with the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed playing Santa during the holidays and served on the Wellsburg Applefest Committee and the Wellsburg Fourth of July Committee. Greg was most proud of being instrumental to bringing the moving Vietnam Wall Memorial to Wellsburg, WV on four different occasions having it displayed in central park during the Fourth of July festivities. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Karen Cheeks at home; one daughter, Beth Ferrari and husband, Tim of Wellsburg, WV; three grandchildren, Zachary and Alexander Ferrari and Abbey Kiger; a great-granddaughter, Valkyrie Ferrari; his son-in-law, Gordon R. Kiger II; one brother, Douglas Cheeks and wife, Renee of SC; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation was held on Friday, April 10, 2026 until the time of funeral services, at Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, with his son-in-law, Rev. Tim Ferrari officiating. Full military honors were conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad and the Army Honor Guard. Inurnment was held privately. Condolences may be left at www.mullenbachfh.com.
