Jay Dee Owens

JAY DEE OWENS, of Weirton, WV, left this world on September 23, 2026, at JW Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Born on Christmas Day in 1959 to Clifford H. and Eleanor V. Pethel Owens, Jay lived a life marked by boundless energy, determination, and a commitment to family that will be dearly missed. A graduate of East Liverpool High School in 1977, Jay pursued higher education and earned a business degree from Youngstown State University. For many years, he dedicated himself to his career as a loan officer, ultimately spending the latter part of his professional journey with Schmidt’s Mortgage in Wintersville, Ohio. Jay thrived on busy days, often requiring an appointment to fit in time for family and friends. He had a penchant for shopping on eBay and took great pleasure in gardening and various home improvement projects. Known for his fierce stubbornness, he was a man who could rarely be found sitting still. Together with his beloved Merry, Jay made it a tradition to deliver telephone books each year; additionally, his love for nature shone through in his cherished moments spent at Austin Lake, where he enjoyed camping and fishing. An animal lover at heart, Jay’s kindness was exemplified by the rescue of a stray named Red Bud, who became a beloved companion. A devoted fan of classic rock and roll, Jay found joy in life’s rhythm and the music that accompanied it. Though he did not belong to a specific church, he held a genuine belief in the Almighty that guided him throughout his days. Jay was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory is his partner for almost twenty-five years, Merry Yates of Weirton, granddaughter Merry Yates, brother Theodore “Ted” Owens, and sister Linda Sirriani. Jay’s request for cremation has been honored. He was cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory, Weirton. No services were held. Share condolences at www.grecohertnick.com.
