WILLIAM CHARLES “WILLY” “BILL” LATIMER, 78, of Colliers, WV went to be with the Lord Friday September 15, 2023 at UPMC Presbyterian after complications from a fall. Born November 29, 1944 in Follansbee WV, Willy was the eldest of four children born to the late William and Betty (Swain) Latimer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Beth Ann Latimer and sister Joyce (Latimer) Miller. Willy graduated from Follansbee High School and was a veteran of war. He served in Vietnam and while deployed had his mother Betty take pictures of his beloved Oldsmobile 4-4-2 to mail to him to ease his homesickness. Upon returning home, he worked at Weirton Steel in the BOP as an operator on the Castor until his retirement in 1997. A lifelong gearhead, Willy loved working on cars and had many hobbies including autobody and carpentry. He built three houses, calling the last house he built home at the threshold of the family farm, spending many days putting up hay and mending fences with his father. Willy enjoyed spending time tinkering in the garage with the door up and a view of the horses peacefully grazing in the pasture and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be remembered by many for his kind heart, willingness to help anyone and his love of cars and animals. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Sandra (Beatty) Latimer of Colliers; sons, Robert Latimer of Colliers, Mark Latimer of Colliers, Bradley and wife Erin (Russell) Latimer of East Liverpool; daughter, Jennifer Latimer and fiancé James Heck Jr. of Follansbee; nine grandchildren: Corey, Ashley, Sydney, Hannah, Jason, Sophia, Jamie, Noah and Logan; great-grandson, Aiden; sisters, Donna Latimer and Evelyn (Latimer) Leas; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved Rough Collie, Jax. The family wishes to thank the physicians and nurses at UPMC for the excellent care they gave our father and a special thanks to Eric Fithyan at James Funeral home for going above and beyond for the family during this difficult time. Arrangements were made by James Funeral Home, Follansbee, and a private graveside service was held at St. Johns Cemetery, Colliers with Military Honors by the United States Army and Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to K9s for Warriors at https://donate.k9sforwarriors.org in his memory to honor his service to our country and his love of animals.
