CALMON DAVID “BUTCH” ORBAN, 79, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Wheeling Hospital. Born on February 28, 1944, in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Lawrence C. and Ethel P. (Jandura) Orban. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Ann Whetsell and brother-in-law, Marvin Whetsell, and brother-in-law, Charles R. DeMark. Butch graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1962. After high school he attended West Virginia University for four years and played on the basketball team his freshman year. He retired after 30 plus years of service at Weirton Steel Corporation where he worked as a supervisor in the tin mill. Butch was Presbyterian by faith. He also enjoyed following the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Steelers along with golfing, fishing, and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife 56 of years, Gretchen (Hagerman) Orban at home; two Children, Holly Beth and Scott Mahosky of Dallas, TX and Kent L. and Angel Orban of Follansbee, WV; one sister, Jacqueline (Orban) DeMark of Wellsburg, WV; five grandchildren, Ethan Orban, Haylee and Olivia Orban, Kent Orban, Jr. and Sarah Mahosky; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Sunday, September 24, 2023 until the time of his Celebration of Life, at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, with Pastor Frank Haas officiating.
