William David Almasy

WILLIAM DAVID ALMASY, 88, of Wellsburg, WV died peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, with his family by his side. Born on April 13, 1935, in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late William W. and Mary (Barsnick) Almasy. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two sisters, JoAnn (Cosmo) Brancazio and Norma (Joe) Tokash. Bill attended Follansbee High School and then enlisted into the Naval Reserves with honorable discharge in 1960. From there, he worked with his father building homes in Weirton until employment at Weirton Steel Corporation for over 35 years as a millwright. He has been a life-long member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church and the 25-Year Club at Weirton Steel. His favorite past time has been working outside taking care of his yard and home he built for 60 years with his wife. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, family vacations and gatherings and especially his grandchildren whom he taught life, history, trivia, gardening, and work ethic. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Ann (Palmer) Almasy; two children, Cynthia Paesano and husband, Frank of Follansbee, WV, and Dr. William Almasy and wife, Cheryl of Mt. Morris, PA; one sister, Laura (Almasy) McCullough of Follansbee, WV; two grandchildren, Deidrea Paesano and Jake (Ashley) Paesano; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation for Bill was held on Friday, October 13, 2023 until the time of a Catholic Funeral Mass, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Wellsburg, with the Rev. Father Justin Golna as celebrant. Interment followed in Franklin Cemetery. Full military honors were conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad and the Navy. The Williams family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Robert Marks and Dr. Tim Weyrich for all their care through the years and Valley Hospice for their care and comfort at the end of Williams life.
